Although our Austrian wine colleagues are renowned mainly for their Veltliner and Riesling, blue varieties play a major role in many places. Be it Burgenland, where the warm microclimate gives rise to one of the best Franconians and Zweigels in Europe, or the western Weinviertel, where you will find amazing Pinot and Laurel, Austrian winemakers have nothing to be ashamed of. Do not expect heavy wines of the South, but red full of life and fruit, often similar to the best domestic from the Blue Mountains or Znojmo. We will introduce the production of Judith Beck, the most famous biodynamic winemaker of Austria. We will taste wines from the current star of young Austrian winemakers Clause Preisinger and check whether the best Laurel by Gruber winery (Weinviertel) got its 96 points rightly. Martin Procházka personally compiled a selection of wines and will lead you through them.
